Family Time

post time 27. May 2008 member Becky

Today is the first day we are officially on our own. We have had a lot of help and fun with family over the past month, but the Poterek’s have come and gone (Grandpa and MorMor for the second time!), Nana Jean spent the night & a few days helping out, and now it’s just the five of us. Lucky for me (Becky), Rob has today and tomorrow off. It’s especially fortunate because Sophie still is not a great eater, and we’re up all night, and poor Lucy has had 6 teeth break through in the past two days. She is miserable and also has a high fever that will probably land us in the doctor’s office if it still going on tomorrow. (sidenote-I think I have been to a doctor’s office at least once a week every week for the past 4 months-from pregnancy complications to newborn weight checks to sick kids, we have had our share of medical care!)

Last week was especially fun. It was the first time in three years that my whole family got together–and in that time, we have added 3 family members-Lucy, Sophie, and Chris’ fiancee Christin. I think Maiya enjoyed the company the most–she LOVED all the the attention!

Here are some pictures of family time.

We had a backyard campfire thanks to Opa and Grandpa-Maiya’s first real marshmallow roasting experience. She liked eating them cold better!

We are already missing family! Thanks, mom & dad and Tom & Jean, you are the best parents & grandparents in the world!

Anyhow, we have made it through a day on our own. I’m sure the next few days are going to be challenge for me, figuring out how to take care of and spend time with each of my girls while not letting the house fall down around us!

The funniest comment / look that I have received many times over now that Sophie is here is the comment or odd look about having a home full of girls. “How is he going to do it?” “What will he do when they’re all teenagers?” “How will he survive????!!!”

Sophie Gets A Bath & Mom and Dad Sleep!

post time 7. May 2008 member Rob

Well, we seem to be getting pretty settled into a new routine around home, thanks due mainly to all the wonderful help from Becky’s Mom, Debbie.  We even felt settled enough that we ought to give Sophie her very first bath.  She didn’t like it very much, but she is clean and doing great.  Becky and I also brought her into her very first visit to the doctor where she was given the thumbs up that she’s doing great.

In other news, “In Search of Sleep 2008″ is actually going pretty well.  Sophie’s been sleeping / eating pretty regularly in the evenings.  This doesn’t mean that Mom & Dad are getting enough sleep, it just means that we appreciate a sense of routine!

Home At Last

post time 2. May 2008 member Rob

This afternoon Becky & Sophie were given a clean bill of health and discharged from the hospital. The whole family (now known as The Mohrweis Five), along with Mor Mor, loaded up and drove home. It’s great to be back in our home where everything is comfortable and familiar, although Maiya does miss all the fun buttons that made Mommy’s bed do cool things in the hospital! As we settled in tonight and helped our girls off to sleep, we just looked at each other amazing and feeling very blessed by these three wonderful lives that God has given us.

Now we’re off to sleep… or whatever that means for the next few months

Okay, so CampMohrweis is supposed to keep you updated not just on Sophie’s birth, but on our life in general.  We’ve done a lot in the last couple of months; moved into a new house, celebrated three birthdays, had a new baby…  Anyways, I added some photos to tell more of the story.

Thanks so much to all who have come by and said “hi” to Sophie! And thanks too to all of you who have dropped emails, phone calls, comments, etc. It’s amazing to feel all the love. I’ve posted some more pictures in the gallery, and I’ll try to keep posting as the days roll on. But for now… Sleep, or whatever that is supposed to look like!

Welcome Baby Sophie!

post time 30. April 2008 member Rob

Okay, so we really didn’t intend to start the site out this way, but hey, what better way than news of a new baby!

Starting from the begninning… For those of you that don’t know, Becky and I have two other children who were born early. Maiya (3) was born at 37 weeks (three weeks early), and Lucy (1) tried to come at 32 weeks, then Becky went on bed rest in the hospital for a week, then back home for two weeks before Lucy was born at 35 weeks. Knowing this, we had a feeling that our third pregnancy was going to be interesting. Everything had been going great, but Becky began having some pretty strong contractions at 28 weeks. We came in and saw the doctors and they were able to halt the contractions and gave us meds to use at home to do the same. From then on, Becky lived in a world full of contractions controlled by medication. We came in a couple more times having strong contractions over the weeks and the story was always the same: Stopped with stong drugs at the hospital, told to “take it easy” (which is really hard with a 3 year old and 1 year old at home!), and told that each week we could hold off the better off Becky and our baby would be.

This past Sunday night as we were headed to bed, Becky began having some very strong contractions. These were “different” and very intense. She was able to somewhat control these contractions with her meds, but come morning we knew that something was definitely different. Monday afternoon Becky had already had an appointment scheduled with her OB, so we held off on going in until then. (Sidebar - for those of you who don’t know, “going in” for us is to the hospital, an hour away from our house. This makes the decision to go or not much more difficult) At her appointment, she learned that she had dilated to 5cm! The doc told her to go on to bed rest and keep up with the meds as needed for contractions. After hearing this, and talking with Becky about it, we both knew baby was coming soon! When we got home, I went into go-mode, cleaning the whole house, making sure the nursery was all ready, packing our bags and bags for the girls, and making sure we had late-night backup in case we had to go in during the middle of the night. We did.

Strong contractions began again as we were headed off to bed and this time the meds weren’t helping. We drove into the hospital and were quickly setup in a room with more drugs given to hopefully slow or halt the contractions. At first, it looked like it was working, but I believe the hospital staff underestimated Becky’s resolve to no longer be pregnant! At around 8am the next morning (Tuesday), our new nurse checked on Becky’s progress (she was definitely in active labor at this point), and she quickly said: “Wait just a minute, I want to have another nurse check you out.” I labeled this nurse: The Rookie. The next nurse who came in, I labeled: The Pro. She checked Becky and said: “Whoa girl, you’re already at 9cm! You’re going in!” Within minutes the room was abuzz with our doctors and various other medical staff who were prepping Becky and myself for surgery (our two other children were c-sectioned too). We were carted off and at 8:53am, Sophia Joy Mohrweis entered our world. Here are the stats:

Sophia Joy Mohrweis - 6lbs 13oz, 19inches long, born at 8:53am, Tuesday April 29th.

There’s no real special meaning to her name, except to say that we both loved it. Her middle name is after Becky’s childhood best friend Missy, who also has Joy as her middle name.

Both Becky and Sophie are doing great. Everyone’s resting and recovering very nicely. Mom’s pretty beat, and baby is bright-eyed and alert, checking out everything in this crazy new world. We’re hoping to head for home tomorrow, but most likely, we’ll be home Friday.

We’d love to hear from you. Leave a comment, drop an email, or give us a call: 360-493-7027 (ask for Rebecca Mohrweis’ room).

I hope to have some pictures up soon!

Family & Friends,

In a renewed attempt to keep everyone informed of what’s going on in our lives, we’re brining back CampMohrweis.com. Hang tight as we undergo some major construction here and there over the course of the next few days, and hopefully we’ll arrive at a fresh & fun new website! - Rob & Becky
